Area Sample Frame (KSA) in South Lampung

November 24, 2023 | BPS Activities

KALIANDA- Friday, 24 November 2023, the South Lampung Regency BPS Team carried out field visits and supervision of Area Sample Frame Survey (KSA) activities. This activity aims to ensure the accuracy and suitability of observations, within the time frame, and in accordance with the SOP and methodology in KSA. The KSA survey is carried out routinely towards the end of every month with regional samples spread across all sub-districts in South Lampung Regency focusing on observations of rice and corn crops.

The area sampling frame (KSA) is a spatial statistical approach developed by FAO (Food Agricultural Organization, USDA (United State Department of Agriculture), and EUROSTAT of the European Union. It is not a mapping & remote sensing approach, but a statistical approach. Recently The Area Sampling Frame approach is developing rapidly along with advances in computer technology, GIS and increasingly sophisticated data communication systems.

KSA is defined as a sampling approach technique that uses land area as the enumeration unit. This KSA method is used to forecast harvest area which is up to date and more accurate than the previous method, namely eye estimation. This system is based on geographic information system (GIS) technology, remote sensing, information technology and statistics which are currently being implemented in Indonesia to obtain agricultural data and information on food crops.

The Area Sample Frame Survey (KSA) aims to calculate the estimated harvest area for rice and secondary crops (corn). The estimated harvest area with commodity productivity will be the production figure for rice and secondary crops (corn). With the KSA method, it is hoped that harvest area data will be more accurate and timely. Through information on the KSA observation phase, you can also know the harvest estimates for the next few months. Of course, this is very useful for the government in determining national food program policies.
